At the ravon Members Meeting Day on November 10, 2007 mr. Ton Lenders was awarded for his initiatives in founding the first herpetological study groups in the Netherlands. Main aims were to study and protect amphibians, reptiles and their habitats. The Lenders Award was established in 2006 for persons that have distinguished themselves for their efforts to protect native amphibians, reptiles and fish. The award is named after Ton and his brother Rob Lenders, who also played an important role in the study and protection of these animals in the Netherlands. In the article the biologist laureate is interviewed about the remarkable variety and profoundness of the field studies he made on behalf of these species. Among these especially the common viper (Vipera berus), which was studied during more than 30 years.
