At the ravon members meeting on November 7, 2008 dr. Henk Strijbosch received the Lenders Award for his stimulating role during his more than 30 years of lectureship at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. Thanks to his inspiring and open minded way of education many students in zoology became passionate herpetologists. The field excursions in many European countries, guided by Henk Strijbosch, were famous among the students. His favourite species is the common lizard (Zootoca vivipara), which he has studied intensively. The Lenders Award was established in 2006, to honour persons who have distinguished themselves for their efforts to protect native amphibians, reptiles and fish. The award is named after Ton and Rob Lenders, two brothers who played an important role in the study and protection of these animals in the Netherlands.
