A large erratic block (fig. 2) was found in a Saalian outwash till near the village Lage Vuursche in the province Utrecht (fig. 1). The conditions of the locality are discussed by J. G.Z., with special attention to the composition of the 3-5 mm fraction of this residual till (table I) and some other boulder clay occurences in the central part of the Netherlands. The till debris of the Lage Vuursche contains a gravel association, which compares with that of decalcified red boulder clay (tabel II). Amegascopic and microscopie description of the erratic block's rock type, together with a characterization of the uppsala granites is given bij C. J. O.
