In this article a description is given of the recent junction of an offshore bar with the beach of the north western part of the Frisian Island of Terschelling (northern part of the Netherlands). The bar formed part of the outer tidal delta in the strait of Vlie, which connects the tidal flat area with the Northsea between the islands of Vlieland and Terschelling. Such an offshore bar rises up above the water level and gradually approaches the coast. First the outer part joined beach (see fig., u), afterwards the joining of the root followed (see fig., w). A.rather deep coastal lake remains. The junction came about within the course of the last ten years. Similar accretions explain the existence of a very broad beach on the spot (some hundreds of meters) and in general the thickening of the western parts of the Frisian Islands.
