Natural resources from the Dinantian consist of sedimentary rocks such as Carboniferous Limestone, rocksalt and coal. Open fissures, pores and karst cavities in the Dinantian rocks may serve as a reservoir for hydrocarbons, various mineralizations including lead-zinc ores, and groundwater that may occur as mineral water or thermal water. In South-Limburg, mineral water was exploited at Maastricht between 1931 and 1960. Since the beginning of 1989, an ultramodern spa, Thermae 2000, opened its doors to the public. This spa receives thermal water from the karst cavities at about 375 m depth in the Dinantian limestone. This water has an anomalous temperature of almost 25°.
