Stromatoliet op rif: een Zeeuwse specialiteit

This article describes recent stromatolites in brackish water lakes in the south-west part of The Netherlands, near Zierikzee. During spring time the lakes are mainly filled with fresh water and during the summer, due to evaporation, the water level lowers and the salinity increases. Blue algae survive these changing conditions and form calcareous crusts on reefs of the Bryozo Electra sp.
