Seseli montanum L., an umbelliferous species, mainly occurring in the southern part of Europe, has been found in 1959 along the river Meuse near Maastricht in the southernmost part of the Netherlands. It is remarkable that no records of this species are available from Belgium. The disjunct distribution of the species, being found in the North of France and in the Netherlands probably may be attributed to the preference of the species for soils of loose consistancy found on the Cretaceous and Jurassic limestones.
