An invasion of Camberwell Beauties (Nymphalis antiopa) in the Netherlands during August and September 1995 caused a big sensation among naturalists. According to the Red List, the Camberwell Beauty is a species extinct in the Netherlands. The Butterfly Foundation received a total number of 875 sightings of the species which is nowadays only an occasional visitor from abroad. Butterflies were mostly seen in the northern half of the country.
