Title: Does the name Euglesa merit “the benefit of the doubt“? Objection against Bank’s (1998: 131) proposal to adopt the nomen dubium Euglesa Jenyns, 1832, as a subgeneric name of Pisidium C. Pfeiffer as well against his suggestion to select a specimen of Pisidium casertanum (Poli) as its neotype. Kuiper prefers to adjourn any nomenclatorial decision until more is known about the identity of the type-species Euglesa henslowiana Jenyns, 1832, of which the original specimens seem to be lost. Can exploration of the type-locality (the river Cam and marshes near Cambridge) with a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the sphaeriid records contribute to an elucidation of the problem?
