Globally, one third of all amphibians are threatened with extinction. The largest threat is the reduction of size and quality of their habitat, but the role of infectious diseases has become increasingly important. As amphibians produce many offspring, they are capable of dealing with unfavourable conditions. Nonetheless, two infectious diseases, ranavirus and chytridiomycosis, pose serious threats for the survival of (local) populations. Currently ravon is studying the presence of chytridiomycosis in amphibians in the Netherlands and we ask for your help in this. This can be done by reporting sightings of mass mortalities and by donating a financial contribution to support this study. More information can be found on the ravon-website.
