The pleistocene clay-region in the south-west corner of Noord-Brabant, Holland, and the adjacent part of Belgium, lies just outside the south-west border of the Rhine-Meuse deposits, here the very coarse sediments of middle and older pleistocene age. At its southern edge this clay-region is lifted to about 80 ft. above Dutch Ordnance Level, and borders on the Rupel-basin, belonging to that of the river Scheldt. To the west this clay-region ends abruptly in a cliff descending towards the belts between the islands of Zealand. See fig. 1. Till now there has been uncertainly about the place of this clay in the sequence of pleistocene deposits in the Netherlands.
