De aardkorst beweegt ons

A brief review is given of present-day knowledge on submarine ridges and rises, magnetic properties of rock samples from the continents and sea floor, and convection currents. It is shown how researches on these subjects led to the development of the concept of seafloor spreading. Reference is made to the view expressed by J.Tuzo Wilson that this concept may open up the avenue to an important break-through in the solid-earth sciences.
