Smal, oval to round depressions in Weichselian deposits near Scheemda in the northern Netherlands were formed in Late Dryas time. Lithology, sedimentology, and stratigraphic position indicate that these depressions were produced by seasonal frost action followed by thermokarst solution. Comparison with the results of earlier studies on similar features in the norhtern part of the Netherlands shows that climatic change during the Late Glacial was strongly influenced by local environmental factors.
