In southeast France near St.Bauzile in Upper-Miocene (Turolian) diatomite an abundant fossil flora and fauna occurs. The author describes the technics of preservation of the fossils directly in the quarry and the faunal and floral species from the liturature and own findings. The fauna consists of species of fishes, insects and Arthropods. Besides fossils of a tortoise, snakes, a bird, antelopes, hares, boars, rhinoceros and horses have been found. The floral fossils belong to a vegetational succession of forest, forest fringe, shore- and aquatic plants.
