In 1986 and 1987 three seismic lines with a recording time of 15 seconds, were surveyed onshore the Netherlands to obtain, among other things, seismic information from the lower crust. Interpretation of the crustal data below the sedimentary cover shows a transparant upper crust and a reflective lower crust. The amplitudes of the low-crustal reflections appear to be laterally variable. A relation between high heatflow values and high amplitude reflections is proposed. The depth of the Moho discountinuity between the mantle and the crust is interpreted at the base of the reflective lower crust. A preliminary contour map of the depth of the Moho shows a shallower Moho below two basins and a deeper Moho below a structural high.
