From the dumping site of the Preussag Anthrazit GmbH coal mine at the Hopstener Strasse in Ibbenbüren (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany) a remarkable find is reported: saltlumps consisting of almost pure natriumchloride. In the present paper it is stated that this salt is not of Permian (Zechstein) origin. It turns out that in the galleries of the coal mine the lumps have been deposited as stalagmites by natriumchloride containing water, originating from the coalbeds and dripping on the workfloors.
