The Horsterwold in Southern Flevoland, one of the IJsselmeerpolders reclaimed in 1968, has been afforested from 1973 onwards with a variety of mainly deciduous tree species. A one-day visit yielded several noteworthy mosses on poplar trunks such as Cryphaca heteromalla, Orthotrichum pumilum, O. striatum and Ulota coarctata. On recently felled 22-year old poplars mosses appeared to attain a height of 10m ( Orthotrichum diaphanum), with O. stramineum, O. tenellum and Tortula laevipila occurring between 2 and 7.5m. The extremely rare Habrodon perpusillus was found at a height of 7.5m.
