A method is described, for the rapid investigation of older formations through coarse quaternairy deposits, with the help of a powerful pump, a long flexible hose and a stiff p.v.c. tube. Possibilities and difficulties of this method are discussed. Good sampling seems to be rather impossible, but the method is excellent for a quick reconnaissance. A boring of 13 meters depth used to be ready within five minutes. Sandy and clayey layers are easily perforated and this even appeared to be possible with schists.
