During an investigation on the island of Texel, mainly in 1981, eleven species of Charophyta have been recorded: Chara aspera, C. baltica, C. canescens, C. connivens, C. contraria, C. delicatula. C. globularis, C. hispida, C. vulgaris, Nitella opaca and Tolypella glomerata. The Charophyta are found in pools and marshes in wet dune slacks, and in ditches in the polders. The ability of these plants to colonise newly formed small pools in the sand-dunes is discussed.
