The new locality of Melica uniflora, discovered in 1998, is situated in a forest area in the surroundings of the village Maarsbergen. There, the species is growing in the verge of a road, in a gradient between nutrient rich and nutrient poor. Till the middle of the former century this area has been heathland. So the locality is not a (very) old one and Melica must have established there in this century, probably not long ago. In the Netherlands, Melica uniflora is a rare species of the southeastern part of the country.
