In 1996 Corydalis solida (L.) Clairv. was found in a shaded roadside in the Guelder Valley, an area in the centre of The Netherlands. Originally the species did not occur in this area with sand soils poor in nutrients and poor in lime. By eutrophication a suitable habitat for C. solida originated. From 1997 up to and including 2013 the distribution of the species was recorded every four years. In this period the number of flowering plants increased from 141 to 1770. Myrmecochory is important for the spreading of C. solida. It came out that ants can spread seeds of C. solida and of the closely related C. cava (L.) Schweigg. & Körte over distances up to 3 m (and possibly further up to ample 4 m). Seedlings of both species can flower for the first time after minimal 3 or 4 years (that is 4 or 5 years after sowing). So some years are needed before a seedling can act as a seed source for further spreading. Besides myrmecochory also anthropochory can have been important for the spreading of C. solida in the roadside. Probably the first establishment there has happened by anthropochory.
