For the first time all fossil remains in Dutch collections of Emys orbicularis (Linnaeus, 1758) from the clay pits near Tegelen (Tite Netherlands) are described. Differences in colour and structure of the fossils probably correspond with light coloured sandy clay beds and heavy mineral-assemblaged dark grey and blue clay beds in which the fossils have been found. In some pits a Waalien clay bed overlays a Tiglien-dated clay bed. No information can be provided about the depths in which the fossils have been found. Therefore it is doubtful that all fossils are of Tiglien age. The length of peripherals is related to the length of the carapax. Most of the Tiglian fossil peripherals indicate that the pleistocene Emys orbicularis was smaller than the holocene pond tortoises.
