On 7 August 2000, a 2cy-female Hobby was foraging above an alfalfa field in the open farmland of Groningen. The wet conditions in July caused a delay in the harvest of this crop, resulting in abundant flowering of alfalfa. This attracted large numbers of peacocks, at least several 1000s on 20 ha. The Hobby leisurely circled the field at low altitudes, catching a minimum of 23 peacocks in 30 minutes. Prolonged insect hunting of Hobbies in the province of Groningen is rarely observed because the open farmland does not provide insect concentrations (as in marshes and on heaths).
