In the evening of 6 June 2011, two Hobbies were repeatedly seen hovering over a heathland in the northern Netherlands (Dwingelose Heide). The birds had been quartering the heath in typical Hobby fashion, when both birds suddenly switched to hovering. The latter looked more clumsy than shown by Kestrels Falco tinnunculus hunting nearby. The local weather was sunny with little wind. Hunting success and frequency of hovering were not quantified. A week later, two Hobbies were still present, but were not seen hovering.
