With Jones’ monograph “American Species of Amelanchier” as a guide, an investigation was made after the species of Amelanchier occurring in the Netherlands, either as cultivated plants or subspontanized. The main characters of each of these species are enumerated and summarized in a key. The plants hitherto called A. canadensis (L) Med. belong apparently in part to A. laevis Wieg., in part to A. arborea (Mich.f.) Fern. A. canadensis (L) Med. is the correct name for A. oblongifolia Roem.; A. canadensis Torr. & Gray is a synonym of A. laevis Wieg. The villous form of the latter occurring in the Netherlands, Southern England and Denmark as a subspontanized plant is not identical with American material and is distinguished as f. villosa.
