Sympecma paedisca (Brauer, 1982) is a rare and endangered dragonfly and was until recently only known from two localities in The Netherlands. At seven new localities in the province of Friesland in the northern part of The Netherlands S. paedisca was found in 2001. On six of these localities (Rottige Meenthe, Delleboersterhei, Schoapedobbe, Katlijker Schar, Katlijkerheide and Diakonieveen) only one or two specimens were seen. These are possibly migrants, but reproduction cannot be excluded given the the quality of the habitat. On the locality Lindevallei at maximum 19 specimens were seen. It is tentatively suggested that all locations are recently colonised from the nearby large population in the Weerribben and that the rivers Tjonger and Linde are important connections.
