In 1998-2000 data were collected for a breeding bird atlas in The Netherlands. This gave a possibility for estimating new numbers for the Province of Drenthe. Compared to previous estimates, species that are to some extend connected to rural landscapes became less abundant, whereas species of forests and gardens became more abundant (Table 1, Figure 1). Species that showed the strongest increase were in general non-native herbivores (4) or related to forests (3). Species that distinctively decreased had no common features nor requirements (Table 2).
