Some butterfly species are becoming Increasingly rare. A number of such species observed In the Netherlands In 1993 are discussed. These Include Papilio machaon, Iphiclides podalirius, Apatura iris and Mesoacidalia aglaja. The decline of especially Coenonympha tullia is alarming.
