Southern Limburg has always been a part of the Netherlands rich in butterfly species. However, as in the rest of the country, the numbers have decreased dramatically in recent years. This is largely due to fragmentation of the landscape and intensive land-use by agriculture. A survival plan has now been set up to improve the habitats through quick and easy management measures. Connecting corridors and adaptations in nature and rural management will hopefully lead to the return of butterfly populations in Limburg.
