The Green Hairstreak ICallophrys rubi) has unexpectedly appeared on Texel, an island off the coast of northern Holland. The number of sightings of this resident species has increased in the past three years to 73 in 1998. Butterflies were seen mainly in nature restoration areas. Woodland clearings, flowery grasslands and heather in the coastal dunes have proved to be a suitable habitat for wanderers of the Green Hairstreak.
