In the nature area ofKampina (province of Noord-Brabant) butterflies have been spotted and counted since 1982. The most common species are the Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) and the Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus). There are several butterfly species which are characteristic for the nature area. The most important are the Chequered Skipper (Carterocephalus palaemon), Alcon Blue (Maculinea alcon), White Admiral (Limenitis camilla) and Purple Emperor (Apatura iris). The authors believe that improper management is threatening the existence of some vulnerable species. .
