Finally reproduction of Grass Snake outside Oostvaardersveld Active management of egg-laying sites during the last thirteen years has led to the growth of a small, isolated population of the Grass Snake (Natrix natrix) in the Oostvaardersveld, in the province of Flevoland. It took ten years before evidence of reproduction was found in areas with good grass snake potential nearby. Last year, 125 eggs were found 4 km southwest of the Oostvaardersveld and 450 eggs 2 km to the northeast. Although a step nearer to the nearest metapopulation of Amsterdam-Gooi, there are still 20 km to go and quite some time before a connection is realised!
