In the Spanish regions of Andalucia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and Comunidad Valenciana and in the Portuguese Algarve and Alentejo, 16 spp. were recorded in 43 localities between the beginning of the second decade of March and mid-April in 1992 – 1995. Nearly half the localities were at altitudes between 200 m and 500 m The mean air temperature in March, at all localities except one, was between 10 °C and 15 °C. Noteworthy observations were of the early appearance of Oxygastra curtisii (Dale) on 07.04.95 in the Algarve, emerging Gomphus pulchellus Sel. on 21.03.92 at 300 m M.S.L. in the Alentejo and adult Enallagma cyathigerum (Charp.) on 28.03.95 near Málaga.
