The small lake of Vela, situated half-way between the cities of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz, at a short distance from the seashore, is well-known to the ornithologists. We have been for a long time visiting this region, the odonate fauna of which consists mainly of Coenagrion lindeni (Sel.), Ischnura graellsi (Ramb,), Anaciaeschna isosceles (Müll.), Anax imperator Leach, Crocothemis erythraea (Brullé), Libellula quadrimaculata L., Orthetrum coerulescens (Fabr.) and Sympetrum fonscolombei (Sel.). On July 18. 1982. we saw 4♂ of Brachythemis leucoslicta: 2 of them were collected and the identification was kindly confirmed by Dr Christophe Dufour, Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The measurements (mm) are as follows: Hw 26, Fw 28. pt 3. abd 24, black stripes in the wings 9 mm wide. — This is the second record for Portugal. The species has been noticed for the first time by A.REIS MOURA (1960, Mems Estud. Mus. zool. Univ. Coimbra 264: 1-4), in the valley of Santarem, a small distance further south, on the Tagus R. (July, 1957).
