Although the odonate fauna of Pakistan is relatively well studied, the northern areas, inch Gilgit and Baltistan, remained so far largely unexplored. It was considered necessary, therefore, to start a survey in these areas. Consequently, some collections were made in the summer seasons of 1992 and 1993. These brought to light 16 species, inch Enallagma cyathigerum, Ophiogomphus reductus and Libellula quadrimaculata, which are new for Pakistan, though they have been listed from the Vale of Kashmir already by F.C. FRASER (1933-1936, Fauna of British India, Odonata, Vols 1-3, Tayler & Francis, London). The discovery of 3 new species in a small collection from this area indicates its faunal difference as compared with the rest of Pakistan, and brings the status of the Pakistani odonate fauna up to 88 known species.
