In the Netherlands, usually only one Leucanthemum species is recognised, L. vulgare Lam. Recent field observations suggest that the Leucanthemum species that occurs abundantly in the Netherlands is the tetraploid species L. ircutianum DC instead. A few Dutch specimens in the herbarium collection of Naturalis in L, however, have been identified as belonging to the 'true' diploid L. vulgare. The latter seems to be rare in the Netherlands, and might be confined to a few relict populations.
