Management operations for reptiles on the Veluwe Several wooded areas on the “Veluwe”, a large forested area in the approximate center of the Netherlands, have been felled and thinned in recent years. This resulted in an increase of suitable habitat for reptile communities and enhancement of connectivity between subpopulations. This study describes two of such examples in the Forestry Kootwijk with regard to a reptile community which consists of Common Lizard, Sand Lizard, Slow Worm, Smooth Snake and Adder. Coniferous forests in the study area were cleared in order to create suitable habitat and connect existing habitat. These areas were colonized within 5 years. Whether these species utilized the two clear-felled forests as corridors remains unproven up till now. Close cooperation between the National Forestry Commission (Staatsbosbeheer) and volunteers of RAVON made it possible to create, conserve and study these areas.
