In 2018, a Buzzard built a nest in the gutter of a greenhouse in Zuid-Beveland, southwestern Netherlands (height: 3.7 m). On 4 June the nest contained 3 incubated eggs. The nesting attempt failed in a later stage, presumably as a result of human disturbance related to activities employed in the greenhouse complex. The nest was also vulnerable to heavy rainfall, but – though downpours were registered in the vicinity – no such rainfall apparently occurred at the nesting site during the incubation period. The unorthodox nesting site is thought to have resulted from recent removals of arboreal windbreaks of orchards and extensive cutting down of tree rows along dikes; these trees constituted the only nesting habitat for Buzzards in otherwise treeless polders.
