In May 2018 a trap camera was installed at a nest of a Sparrowhawk in the dunes near Castricum. From this nest three chicks fledged. Whether or not the nest was visited by potential predators and whether or not the female was able to protect all eggs and young is not clear: the camera was too far away from the nest to be sure about this. In most cases the camera was activated by movements of branches and not by those of residents or visitors of the nest.
