Interessante waarnemingen van een zandwingebied 13 km uit de kust van Vlieland

From December 2014 - February 2016 the first author visited the Dutch dredger mno zeeland several times in Harlingen harbour, before unloading sand that was collected 7 miles off the coast of the Dutch Wadden Island Vlieland. During these visits several new live specimens of mollusc species were collected, indicating that populations of some less common species live closer to the Dutch coast than previously thought. Life collected were specimens of Glycymeris glycymeris, Gibbomodiola adriatica, Diplodonta rotundata and Lutraria angustior. A new characteristic difference in the hinge between Thracia villosiuscula and Thracia phaseolina is described and figured. The authors also refer to an article on beach combing after the storm of January 13, 2017 (Twigt & Raven, 2018) confirming their conclusions about changes in the mollusc fauna of the coastal Dutch North Sea. As the species were formerly only known from more southern waters of the Netherlands, the appearance of these populations could be a sign of a warming North Sea, and thus of climate change.
