De Pastaslak Eobania vermiculata (Müller, 1774) aangespoeld op het strand van IJmuiden

On 29 December, 2015 one specimen of the Chocolate-band snail Eobania vermiculata (Müller, 1774) was found on the beach near IJmuiden, province of Noord Holland, the Netherlands. This invasive terrestrial snail is distributed over many countries around the world. It cannot be excluded that this species will eventually also establish itself in the Netherlands, facilitated by the increasing temperature in this country. One population was already described from Purmerend, also in the province of Noord Holland. Perhaps also facilitated by climate change recently also other species from southern Europe settled successfully in the Netherlands e.g., the White garden snail Theba pisana (O.F.Müller, 1774) and the Girdled snail Hygromia cinctella (Draparnaud, 1801).
