Meeliftende landslakken: verspreiding van de Zandslak Theba pisana pisana (O.F. Müller, 1774) door voertuigen

The White garden snail Theba pisana pisana (O.F. Müller, 1774) is widely distributed around the Mediterranean and along the Atlantic coasts of western Europe. It is regarded as an invasive alien species in several parts of the world (e.g., Australia, California, southern Africa and Northwest Europe). This paper documents a case of human-assisted long distance transport of this species. At least 13 juvenile snails hitchhiked with a car from southern France to the Netherlands (approximately 1200 km). Seven individuals remained attached to this vehicle for more than two months.
