On March 19, 2019 two specimens of Nucula hanleyi Winckworth, 1931 were found in a benthic sample from the Cleaver bank, in the Dutch part of the North Sea. This is the first observation of this species in the Netherlands. It is likely that the species is common on the Cleaver bank and other shallow places in the Dutch North Sea with coarse sandy sediments. However, earlier the species may have been misidentified due to the high degree of similarity among species within the genus Nuculidae.
