New to the Netherlands: the semi-slug Daudebardia rufa (Draparnaud, 1805)
Spirula , Volume 426 p. 35- 36
On 11 November, 2020 a semi-slug was discovered in Piepert (near Eys, municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, province of Limburg) on a wall lining the entrance of a tunnel in the Eyserbeek brook (which underpasses the ‘Miljoenenlijn’ railway track). It turned out to be the Reddish Daudebardi Daudebardia rufa (Draparnaud, 1805). Ten days later several more living species were collected, demonstrating the existence of a population at this site. Daudebardia rufa was already known from Kornelimünster near Aachen in Nordrhein-Westphalia, Germany, approximately 30 km southeast of Piepert. From Belgium no records are known. Whether these new finds in the Netherlands represent a spontaneous expansion of the distribution range of the species or relate to earlier co-transport with natural stones remains elusive.
