Looking for brackish water molluscs in Den Helder
Spirula , Volume 429 p. 28- 31
During a visit to Den Helder (province of Noord-Holland) in August 2021 some inland waters were studied for fresh water molluscs and with special attention for the possible presence of species of brackish water. Mytilopsis leucophaeata and Rangia cuneata were encountered. Theodoxus fluviatilis was found to live in a pond near the sea dike. This species is very rare in brackish water areas in the Netherlands. Unexpected finds were a shell of Ancylus fluviatilis and Euglesa henslowana (= Pisidium henslowanum). In total 31 mollusc species of brackish and fresh water were recorded.
