The Arab Emirates as global suppliers of pearls before 1930

This paper describes the past practices of pearl diving in het Arab world, particularly in Kuwait and Bahrain. Pearl diving had its peak there at the dawn of the 20th century. It waned after the Second World War, among others due to edging out by cultivated pearls.
