Again another exotic species: the blood cockle Anadara kagoshimensis (Tokunaga, 1906)
Spirula , Volume 433 p. 4- 6
On 27 June 2021 well over 50 shells of an Anadara species were found close to the Bergsediepsluis lock in the Oesterdam between Tholen and Zuid-Beveland in the province of Zealand. The species turned out to be Anadara kagoshimensis (Tokunaga, 1906) and the finds represented the first of that species in the Netherlands. Over a year many more shells were collected but the first find of a living specimen stills awaits reporting. Most likely the species has been introduced by ships from the western Pacific Ocean to the Mediterranean and from there together with oysters to Brittany and the Netherlands.
