In 1995 a follow-up survey to the Large Copper project was carried out. Results showed that former habitats of the Large Copper are now no longer suitable for the species. Strangely enough, leaves of great water dock on which Large Coppers had laid their eggs, were found to contain lower levels of nutrients than leaves not used for egg-laying. Knowledge of the butterfly’s ecological demands and of the management of the biotope will be used to set up an Action Plan for the species.
