In the evening of 25 August 2014 a Hobby was seen flying slowly, low over a large saltmarsh on Texel, The Netherlands. The bird clearly scrutinized the vegetation and appeared to be searching for prey. It flew back and forth over an area of circa 50x100 m and regularly stopped to “hover” for a few seconds. It never dived to the ground and did not catch any prey. Nearly a year later, at exactly the same spot, again a Hobby was seen engaged in this type of behaviour, and again without success. The observations were done opportunistically and the area was not visited on other evenings at this time of year. It seems feasible that the same Hobby was involved in both years, which would suggest that it must have been successful on other occasions.
