Potamogeton × nitens was recently found at four locations in the south of the Netherlands: 3 locations in the River Meuse and one in a finished sand extraction pit near Rosmalen. There is only one previous record from the Netherlands in 1919. This pondweed hybrid deserves the attention of botanists because, like in neighbouring countries, it may be more abundant in the Netherlands than hitherto known. The hybrid can be identified by its resemblance to P. gramineus, but differs from this species by having unridged stipules and semi-amplexicaul submerged leaves and never having floating leaves.
